I wanted the spiral in my game to feel more like falling down a rabbit hole. Any suggestions? [Scarlett University] [OC]

  2. The flashieness of that animation is a bit too jarring for photosensitive people – just a heads up. I’d cut down on it if I were you for accessibility sake or make a warning if you really really must commit.

  3. As other people suggested, lights make this look like 5 fps and is just hurtful in general, but as for making it more like a rabbit hole….. i cant really make much suggestions here, maybe remove that close-up effect of the character and have here close to the screen to begin with? Close up doesnt nake sense when the spiral goes in the opposite direction and the goal is to make it look like you’re falling into it. I can imagine a very difficult effect to make however but i dont think its worth the hussle, or if it would even look good (to keep it short just have the girl initially have spiral eyes and camera goes into one of them where she is inside so if its smooth it looks like the spiral is in her now-empty mind).

  4. You need reference points. Try to adjust the speed and movement of the character to better match the speed of the spiral, and potentially include other objects or images that move from the center of the spiral out and past the edge of the screen.

It might also help to bring the view in a little, so that you can have the spiral itself move as you are falling – as if you as the viewer are being moved around by the airflow as you fall

  5. I think it’s good, but the flashing lights in the middle is a bit of an eyesore. Maybe instead have the background fade into the spiral, then the character (pre spiral background) drops to reveal themselves in the background like they are post-transition?

  6. To feel more “falling down a rabbit hole”, Try easing into it with a fade-in. And instead of starting with a fast spiral into a moderate speed spiral, try a slow spiral into a moderate spiral. That will make it feel more like a gentle fall (falls accelerate until you reach terminal velocity after all). Maybe even start the spiral partially overlayed over the scene a few counts before zero. Oh and maybe have the character start big and then get slowly further away (with the camera eventually “catching up” and zooming back in after “terminal velocity” is reached)
